is there any kind of digital display that would show how many watts the amp is giving out in real time?completely worthless, but it would look cool built into the sub box or amp. i like that frilly worthless s**t. maybe not even possible

Maybe modify an RMS clamp meter for the task? Would even have the remote chance of being somewhat accurate in that case, if you had a little circuit to do the math for you...

Ive seen LED meters on ebay that will measure amperage draw but not actuall wattage.

Im shure if you had some sort of carputer and made a program for it it wouldnt be to hard if you knew the math

you're talking to an uneducated ex con. i do things by trial and error. not something a carputer is keen on:crashcom: this maybe to advanced of a project for me at this time. one day though, i'll post pics, after 2000 dollars, 500 hours of hammer throwing, and 15000 expletives. you've started the wheels turning though.

my initial thought is:

cheap DMM that has an output, set it to RMW Volts

send that signal to a microcontroller, into which you have program the basic ohm's law calculation

have that output to a small LCD or LED display

i know that wouldn't be super accurate, but that's the way most people are setting their gains, so it should be good enough to give you a ballpark figure.

i would think you could get it done for under $100 and a weekend's worth of time (if you can find a DMM that outputs something that a cheap microcontroller can understand, and you are familiar with the syntax of the microcontroller) //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Probably the only thing from them that's remotely affordable, so long as those fanboys on Ebay and Audiogon keep driving up the prices of their amps...fuck, no way I'm paying $2k+ for anything 6550-based. Tetrodes are not that good.

They're excellent quality amps, sure...but you see MC275's selling upwards of a grand in really poor condition. That's 40WPC or so of 6550 or KT88-based power, so the parts cost can't begin to justify how much they're in demand for. Push-pull transformers are simply not that expensive //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I'm not knocking the amps themselves, I'm just saying their market value is inflated. I'd rather spend that kind of money on triodes and at least have the amps worth that much in parts //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I own something like that. A little single DIN 10x2 amplifier with analog meters. Made by Hifonics back when they made their own stuff.
