Semi-intelligent, political discussion...

Not to mention legally possible...just because the resource is there, doesn't mean you can/should get to it. ANWR is an example of this.
Them Canadians (//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif) are also probably aware of the work being done in the tar sands...but like US iron ore mining in the '70s, it's simply spending more money to extract lower and lower concentrations of stuff out of the ground.

Well in order to tap into our gas resources off the eastern coast...we'd have to get govn't approval and they would 'rent' the land out...

People I have also had my share of economics classes, and if you read on history you will see that prices were higher then this back in 1987 but its just the inflation of money has risen making the dollar worth less. America contains 52% of the worlds oil in america untapped because when all of it runs out we can make others pay what we want there for decreasing our prices some.
I do believe paychecks should rise in amounts to keep up with economy but times will change and we will all get through this.

If you really cared about gas prices that much you would get a group together, band together and not pay for gas. Carpool to save a lot of money, or ride or walk. This way the prices would have to decrease. this would have to be a huge or state wide effort, but it can be done. As long as you are paying their prices you are saying that it isnt to high for you to pay..

explain then how gas went up $2 in 18 months? we all have to drive. we can quit driving for a day, but then that will piss off the gas companies and they'll raise there prices because they know we'll eventually have to buy gas sometime.

Well if you look at 2005 dollars, the price per barrel in the late 70's was around $90/barrel...which is about $25 more per barrel then it is now.

I don't think the semi-boycott of gas would work- too many people are dependant on personal transportation in today's society...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

You must realize we are working on better methods of producing cars that run on other fuels.

One everyone know is hydrogen - it will take about 30 years to fully develop a hyrdrogen car that is leak proof and dependable - Gas for that will be about 6.50 a gallon, but in 30 years gas for us will be about 15 bux a gallon at this rate.

It will take another 25 years to get filling stations, transporters, and more of everything for this hyrdrogen car. So at this rate gas will keep going and going till we put a stop to it ourselvves

Well, if this trend continues...

My next vehicle will be a diesel. Biodiesel production is economical for you to do at home in bulk, and the cost savings are significant over commercial diesel fuel.

And it cuts down on the amount of waste vegetable oil. Then the only thing I'd worry about from oil prices is the cost of lubrication oil, but that tends to be a lot more stable.

the government knows that wont happen, it seems like the people of America dont care, we dont stick together, at least the white people of America dont, african americans do allot better than we do, they had to do that 40 years ago to get by, and some what still do, hell jmac knows more about american society and laws/rules than 75% of Americans do i dont know more than 5% of canadian laws....

They only make a few cents on every gallon ...
The problem is that oil consumption is about 3 billion gallons per day ...
does exxon deal with gas overseas, ex - china, i read one time that in 2 years China will be using 2 times the gas they do now, which would be HORRIBLE, 1 billion plus people 25% of them driving = more than the whole US population

that was just exxon. the total profit that all the oil companies make is 33 billion in just 1 quarter not even a year. so you are telling me they can't cut that profit in half? 16 billion isn't enough money?

so what are the biggest factors in the rise of gas prices, America and our government? the war in Iraq? i would say for sure america and our government maybe, and china for sure

supply & demand...we are showing that we are willing to pay $3+/gallon...why not charge that much?

Energy prices -- 4 p.m.

Today Yesterday Chng. % chng.

for qtr. % chng.

Crude oil (NYMEX) (per barrel) $65.96 $67.57 -$1.6100 16.74% 51.81%

Heating oil (per gallon) $2.0890 $2.0911 -$0.0021 27.68% 68.33%

Natural gas (per million BTU) $11.7600 $11.6910 $0.0690 68.46% 91.53%

Unleaded gasoline (per gallon) $2.1325 $2.1837 -$0.0512 36.19% 86.57%

so why am i paying 3.39 is this without the governments profit and exxon or whoevers profit?

Crude oil finished down $1.67 to $65.90 a barrel. Gasoline is down 2.3% to $2.1340 a gallon. Germany said today it will release more than 3.3 million barrels of crude oil from its strategic reserves to help bolster supplies damaged by Hurricane Katrina, but Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder warned that the world must work harder to reduce its dependence on petroleum products.

haha germany released 3.3 million thats all they said they could release, we released 60 million barrels out of our 700 million barrel reserver, our reserve is awsome, i don think we should release any more, maybe 40 more, but slowly build it back up to 700 million barrels
