As the subject line reads.....do these exist? I like car audio. Was really into it in the late 80's and early 90's. Been out for a long time and things sure have changed. Anyway....don't take this the wrong way (I don't need anymore smart azz remarks), I don't need a job doing this. I don't have to have a job period. I think I would enjoy wiring cars and installing audio equipment and was wondering how to get into doing it the right way. I have fair to good carpentry skills, Fairly good electrical skills, good automotive skills and figured I would enjoy doing it.

LMK.

Thanks

They sure do, just don't jump on the first one you find out about, though. Some are much more respected than others, in a non-collegiate kind of way. Some are after your money, and will teach you x amount of things. Some will start from base electronics, and go up to creative fiberglassing and professional installation.

A good school will set you up with an mecp basic installer test at the end, as well as endorse your name as an installer and hopefully set you up with a job. I'm attending in a few months at the following school if you'd like to see what they're all about. http://www.syntec-school.com

do you have to be 18 or older or can you be younger. I am 16 and a junior in high school and over the summer i want to take some extra classes and was thinking about something like this. Do you think that this is permitted?

Some require a H.S. diploma or GED, however not most. If you search through the links that DBfan stated, you can see that some allow students at a minimum age of 16. Tuitions aren't listed on sites, and can vary quite a bit depending on what a particular school involves in its curriculum (tools included, materials, etc.).

Courses, from what I seen, are variable. You can choose 4 months, 2 months, saturdays only, etc.. depending on which path is suited best for you.

One at a time. The list is HUGE!

i know this is an old post, but i was just wondering if the 20 day course would get you a MECP cirtification ( or an oppertunity to take the test), plus has anyone attended the mobile dynamics class, and if so, how much was is to take the complete course ( take MECP test) thanks again.

You don't have to go through these schools to get your MECP Certification. You can take a test if you know it in and out or http://www.bcae1.com. Take the test for like $30 or something or spend $4000 to take month long course. I am going to Installer Institute in Oct.. I can't wait.

I went to Installer Institute when it first opened almost 15 years ago now. I was in the first classes. Its expensive, but I cant really say how much, as I had a relative working there at the time (Metra Electronics) so I got to go for free. Most of them Ive seen are too cost prohibitive to allow someone to go to just to learn about a hobby, unless you are rich. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

It funny, back then they had the walls lined with MB Quart speakers and Volcano subs, saying they were the next big things. I guess they were half right. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
