Rockford Power 1000a2 amp only outputs on ONE Channel! Please help!

Hey all.

I have a Rockford Fosgate POWER 1000a2 amp.

I know that it has worked in the past (used to be able to SEE both my subs - now they are enclosed behind a non-folding seatback!).

When I took apart my back seat and played a song - I noticed that only ONE woofer was playing.

Steps I took:

FIRST - I wanted to test the simplest part first - the RCA - so I took a laptop and used a basic stereo mini-plug to RCA Y cable. This technically tests if the head unit were the problem too - since it is a new audio output source.

Same issue - only playing out of the Left woofer.

SECOND: I took the wires for the non-working right sub - and put them to the left channel (working) output on the amp. The subwoofer works fine - so both subs are working.

THIRD: For amusement - I put the left sub wires into the right output - and sure enough - no play...

So I appear to have an amp that is only outputting on the Left channel.

What could cause this? What are my options? Is there anything I missed in troubleshooting? Can this amp be repaired?

AAAAAAAAAAAHHH lol

Anyone know where I would even go to have it checked?

I live in Syracuse, NY. Or is there a national place that is better.

And on that note - if I do go the replacement route - I would like something that has a similar layout (so I dont have to mess with the wires) - and equal or better power.

But most of all its the quality. Quality for me trumps all.

So on that note - these day - what amp is the cleanest at 1000watts @ 2ohms?

Does it work in bridged mode? Did you try swapping the left and right RCA's to see if that causes the other side to move? Put a 9v batter on the speaker leads to the speaker that's not moving, see if it moves. If not you may have loose wiring inside the box or something of that nature.

so thats used on two dual 4 ohm subs then? also that amp puts out closer to 1200rms. if your using two d4 subs look for 1200@1 ohm if they are single 4ohm or dual 2 ohm then 1200@2. there are not many cost effective 2ch amps that put out that much power these days.

he switched the speaker wires on amps output and had a mono input split on the amps input. both subs are working.

Yes both of my subs work.

I have 2 12" Boston Accoustics G5 subs. They are the 44 models - so they can be 2ohm or 8ohm.

Mine are both running at 2 ohms.

I wouldn't mind using a mono amp - dont really need to differentiate channels on my trunked subs.

However - I see that alot of the mono amps are rated at D quality - not A.

Is there actually a mono amp with a high quality rating and output?

its class d technology not quality. they run more efficient than a/b its fine for subs. look for something thats 1k@1ohm.

I have a brand new in box Boston acoustics GT-2300, it does 1200 @ 4 ohms bridged or 1400 @ 2 ohms bridged, $265 with a bnib GT-RSL GAIN knob. lmk if you're interested.

The GT-2300 does look like a relatively nice amp - and pairing it with Boston subs will make me feel tingly inside (although that probably doesn't make a difference). I like the active cooling!

Question though - I was looking at photos - the 2300 has 2 holes for 12V input and 2 holes for GND input.

It says to use 4 gauge wire. I have 4 gauge wire going into my RF 1000a2. But only 1 wire for 12v and gnd.

Can I just put this 1 wire in there? Are the 2 holes for dual 8 gauge? I even downloaded the manual and it says nothing about the 2 holes.

Is there just a splitter I can buy that would have 1 4g input and 2 4g outputs?

Mathemetically speaking - if I run the GT-2300 at 2 ohms and 2 channel (which I will have to do) it outputs 550watts per channel (which I will likely not use all of).

4g wire can handle the amp draw that this requires.

The current 4g wire handled the rockford 1000a2 which was notorious for amp draw due to inneffiency.
