Rockford Fosgate overrated???

well i would buy form best buy to begin with. They get different equipment than the other autherized dealers. That is why i do not buy best buy //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif(

i had one of the rf punch dvc 12's when they first came out and had to send it back 5 times, because the surround kept coming unglued from the basket, and cone. i haven't been to big on them since that. . . but **** jmac that looks like one sweet amp.

Yeah, only a little underrated //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

Only 1210 watts more than advertised ...
Isn't that a class A/B amp though?
Don't they have a low efficiency rating?

Yeah ... 55.6% is on-par w/ most class a/b amps out ...
2710/(14.4*0.55605) = 338.449 amperes of current draw //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/thumbsupwink.gif.129404938effda6ad9cca39e7f4b58a3.gif
that is alot of current draw.

I'd say they're overhyped, but they do make decent stuff ...
I am a rockford fanatic ( have been for about 15 years ) and I whole heartedly agree with this statement. Especially here lately //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I was at Best Buy yesterday and I saw a RF amps.......
Rockford Fosgate Punch 900W Mono MOSFET Amplifier with Selectable Bass Boost

Continuous Watts per Channel (4 Ohms) 150

Continuous Watts per Channel (2 Ohms) 300

Max Power Watts per Channel (2 Ohms) 900

Cost - $249.99

Is RF so mainstream that everyone gets it just because it's well known? Any why is Sony so bad.....do they use crap parts.......do they just sound like crap....or do they break fast?

thanks
as fosgate has gone more mainstream (ie best buy) product quality has become more mass produced and quality has gone down. i think each generation of amps is poorer than the last. my personal favorite is the black ribbed style. the trapezoidal style are not bad. any of the later stuff i would personally not run. do not go by max wattage, that is all marketing bs. look at rms wattage and even then it should be measurements taken at normal operating temperature, throughout a full frequency range, over a period of time... in reality this amp probably peaks more like 600 watts, and personally i would only call it a 300 watt amp. i think many times on recent birthsheets fosgate might have to slide up the voltage a little just to get numbers high enough to make it look like they are exceeding their specified ratings on the birth sheets. i would only put so much stock into them as well since the numbers change after the components have been warmed up and cooled down a few times, also the lab is perfectly ideal conditions. i'm sure all companies not listing their ratings with a birth sheet are 'underpowered' too, just not producing the sheets... it's not something you can specify exactly with elecontrics and quality of components so the specified ratings on amplifiers are more like 'at these inputs, this amp should produce at least x watts'

Well i had a bad experience with rockford so i sold all of my rockford gear and went kicker and have never been happier.

I too have had bad experience with Rockford.... Would be hard for me to buy Rockford equipment again. My amp is the worse amp out there.. the Type RF X series amps.. they were discontinued because they had power supply problems... But they tried to sell the remaining or ones that needed to be fixed so they could get make money.... Thats not a quality manufacturer by my point of view. The amp fried 2 of my solo barics....

They are using CEA-2006 just like all other reputable manufacturers. You can look up CEA-2006 and find out exactly what they did in the test to come up with those #s
