Road trip jitters...

So, I have a '98 V6 Mustang [Auto //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/woot.gif.aaa6090e619a97b6090d16dd863c5a69.gif], and yeah... it has something along the lines of 95-100K miles. The gear for the meter burnt out and I'm too broke to get a new one...

At any rate, I'm just not sure if it'd stand a road trip? It's never broken down, or given me any troubles mechanically... I mean, of course it has. It's a Ford. But, nothing that has stopped me from driving.

I recently replaced the plugs and O2 sensors, and I do the oil change whenever I have spare cash and I think it's time.

So... you guys think it can make a 3 hour drive? o_o

Is it in good shape, check all the dumb stuff like the belts and hoses. Most people get stranded over little things like that. Their mechanic will tell them there bad but they will ignore it thinking they are getting lied to then they get stranded. 20 dollar belt get pricey after a tow and other charges.

Only 100k and your worried?? and for only 3 hours lol, thats just a little cruise.

Has it given you any major problems recently? How does it run?

Oh, and auto FTL, I can let it slide since its only a v-6 but otherwise manual all the way.

they do but sadly not many get purchased and I am screwed with an auto. I hunted for about 2 months and couldn't find what I wanted //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/furious.gif.fc81ca146dbff91fede3ed290dbc4f4c.gif so I got the auto instead of the 6-speed. I miss not being able to pick my own gears //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

As said above though, check the little things if you are truely worried.

Check and top off your fluids, brake fluid, power steering fluid, coolant, engine oil, and ****** fluid. For extra precaution if ya want keep some of these fluids in the car just in case.

If your belt(s) are looking frayed or extra loose might want to look into replacing, or buying one and keeping it for just in case and know how to change it if the time comes on the side of the road.

Also check your tire pressure and air em up to the recommended pressure either on the door sticker or to the pressure stated on the tire itself.

Not sure if it has discs in the back or drums but if ya can and want to ya can pop off the tires and check the pads, really only takes a few seconds longer than pulling the tires, drums would be harder to check if they are low and probably not worth it if they aren't squeaking or anything.

That should cover the basics of the mechanical side, I guess other than that know your route, have a map just in case. Know where your jack is and that it still works, and also check your spare tire for air pressure. Many of the times people go to put them on and they have no pressure and get stranded all the same.

Hope this helps and best of luck on your trip, car should make it no prob, its a Ford after all right lol.

3 hours is nothing.

My s-10 has 140k on the motor and 320k on the transmission/rearend. Has been driven to shows upwards of 7 hours away without incident. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I only seem to break things within an hour from my house. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

I gave my 96 Mustang to my ex wife so she'd have a vehicle to take care of my daughter...it had about the same miles....she lives 3 hours away and it made it with no problem...she drove 5 or 6 hours oneway and back a few weeks ago when the hurricane came through and had to evacuate....
