Removing scratches and cleaning faceplates

I recently lent my truck to my father this past week and while he had it he improperly stored the faceplate to my radio (I assume pocket). There are some really light superficial scratches on it, and was wondering if there was any way of removing them. I heard that "Brasso" works well, but havent tried it.

also the second question is how do you properly go about cleaning the dust of one without causing damage to the faceplate (ie. without scratching it)

i had an alpine 9815 that i gave away in the freebies thread. the face was scratched up pretty bad before it sent it, but i used a buffer wheel at work and it came out 100x better than it ever was while i had the head unit
