Is there an easy way to remove an aftermarket HU without the provided keys?

The one im trying to take out it in there, and I dont have the keys. do they make a universal, or is a popsicle stick just as good.

Shops have to take out multiple HUs, so tell me how you do it?

I got a set of Ford keys right now, I bought them to take out my stock HU in my 04 Crown Victoria. I used the same keys to remove the stock HU in my cousins 01 Ford Expendition. I just used them again to pull the HU out of my friends 93 Crown Vic.

I bought them from Advance Auto, because I was working on my car on a Sunday and nothing else close was open. Trust me, pick up a set of keys there cheap and easy to find.

Hell, I would send you mine if I wasnt using them so much.

Any pics of it? If the Pioneer is already in there, check to see if its bolted anywhere on the front to the mounts. Also, see if the Pioneer is mounted in a metal sleeve, you can use a small thin flat head screwdriver to bend the tabs down and allow the radio to slide out.

its not bolted, I may try to bend the sleeve tabs like you said. it would be great if I could just find a piece of metal thin enough to go into the slots.

I may post pics tommorrow.

i thought you could remove the dash, unscrew the dash kit and remove it along with the cd player and then after the rear of the HU is exposed its easy to unfold the tabs holding it in. i have done a lot of pioneer hu's and that is what i have done. i was pretty sure i have messed with a f150 too.

"removing an HU" in the english language we only use "an" before vowel beginning words: such as "there is an apple on the table."

then why do we say "an hour" !!!!!!!!!! lol //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

anyways I got it out. I used bent up coathangers and a skinny screwdriver. then with a pair of pliers I pulled it out.

I want to thank everyone for helping me get this resolved. there are some good people on this forum.
