Reconing my L7

I have a 15" L7 waiting to go into my beater. I believe it needs a recone. It was in my friends car when it started working all funky. we just pulled it out of the box and when you push down on the cone it makes a scratchy noise and it isn't smooth at all. Where can I get a recone kit for it and how much will it cost me? I know someone who will recone it. I just need the kit.

There is no recone kit vailable for the L7s. You would need to send it in to kicker. You could call and see how much it would be

Just buy a new one it'll cost you about the same....

I had the same thing happen to my L5 i just figured it was a "partial" blow. Where the VC heated enough to wear it rubs on somthing and you can only hear it at low volumes, where as it is too loud to hear it at high volumes. As for reconing, if you find out any information on that please PM me or let me know because i am interested in that also.

Are you applying even pressure on the cone? I was scared shitless after my first fuse blew at a comp when I was testing and my subs stopped playing. I popped the trunk and pushed down on the cones and it made a scratching noise so I was sure they were bad. Then, a guy pointed out that I was not applying even pressure to the cone which was making it scratch.

But since you say that it's working funky, it must be bad. Just thought I'd contribute. . .

i called them and you need to go to a dealer and work it out with them..............

this is wat they said

Yeah you cant get them reconed....ive been on Tracy (polecat) for over a year now on getting coils for L7's.... I have a stack of L7's in my basement...

all kicker is gonna let you do is trade in your old sub (maybe $20) on a new one...its not even worth the shipping to send it TO kicker for that.

best bet : dont buy kicker's lower line subs if you ever want a recone.

IMHO of course. I've never seen one that sounded as good as an equivalent round woofer. And pretty much any round woofer can be reconed... even if the factory doesn't sell recone kits. There's LOTS of aftermarket parts out there, if you go and check at a pro reconing shop.

There are no proper recone kits for the square subs. Hence, my recommendation for round subs...

BTW, picked up a round Solobaric 10" last night for $50:naughty: so I'm not totally screwed yet.
