Reconing 15"

First i have read the reconing thread that was stickied.

I am thinking of reconing a old MA Audio HK 15" i still have the basket and the magnet. A few things that i didnt find out was what all info do you need to order the recone kit? I would assume voice coil diameter. do you need voice coil depth into the magnet or diameter of the spiders?

Where are some of the cheaper places to get a good recone kit?

take ur sub apart and measure the voice coil outer diameter. it is 3" but those subs use kapton formers(yuck), if it measures od is 3.170 or larger you can easily recone. you are going to need the od of the spiders too....

OD doesn't matter...you can always unwind coil to make an OD fit.

ID is what matters, you can not make a coil have a bigger or smaller former.

If it has a 3.000" former then we can probably make something work, if it has a 3.018 former...we can't, nor can hardly anybody else in the states.

Nothing wrong with kaption, it has it's advantages... (and it's not like you couldn't use something else if you wanted to)

Ok, so I measured everything. it looks like the internal deminsion of the voice coil is right on 3" and it had a dual layered spider one was 7" and the other was 7.5"

Anyone know where i might find one cheap... not looking to spend much on this.

I have tons of coils wound on 3.018" formers as well as 3.00".

No big deal there... PM me if youd like

I agree. I say send it to PSI and let him "customize" it. Turn it into something useful.
