If you want "non-mainstream", about the most-popular thing going right now is DIY. Mix and match speakers, design your own component set.
Though I'm curious as to why you specifically want to go "non-mainstream"? And what brands classify as "mainstream"? My idea of "mainstream" may be different than yours. Heck, I would consider almost every brand mentioned so far to be "mainstream".
actually im looking for brands that most people wouldnt here of or even see in magazines. like re, ia, adire, etc. here in hawaii all of the audio shops never herd of them and i want to have a complete install of brands that almost no one has. just looking for the ones that dont really advertise or just go by word of mouith i guess.
yes very true, most of the brands mentioned here are "mainstream" within the car audio world. but i'm guessing "mainstream" in your definition are brands that are carried in best buy, circuit city, fry's, etc.
quality brands that are not really heard of. to me, kicker, jl, mtx, pg, soundstream, memphis, etc. . those are mainstream to me. but brands like adire, re, ia, mpyre, critical mass, and so on are not. only because not to many people heard of them, and they arereally good.
