After buying two HDC3 12's and realizing that spl really isn't my main goal anymore, I decided to sell it all and keep just one AQ 2200D amp. (Had 2 amps, one to each woofer). I've got an optima red top in back and some 0 gauge ran to the back so I have about 2k to give. I'm big into alternative rock music (by that i mean metal, punk, ska, etc.) and while I know not a lot of that type of music has even a decent amount of bass behind it, I simply can't not stand having a woofer.

So basically, I'm thinking just a single 10 is what I'm looking for. A little bit to fill in when its needed and then when i'm listening to techno or something a little closer to hip hop as some of my interests get, I can pound a little hard to make my mirrors shake. (Before my 2 12's, I had an 18 and didn't like the almost 'sloppiness' of the bass during faster paced music so i'm certainly looking to go smaller). I was contemplating 2 DD1508's, but when compared to a single HDC3 10, the 10 takes much more power and costs less if I ever wanna show off just for fun (and yes, sometimes I do have my rap and pure bass song days where I just wanna bump).

My other option is to totally sell my 2200D and just go even smaller, but I already have an extra battery and the amp in hand, so I might as well just get a smaller woofer that will take the power I already paid for to have. By the way, i drive a Pontiac vibe (gay, i know) and have already done some dynamating to the hatch area and just received my trunk kit of extreme so I plan to thoroughly sound deaden.

you must of had a shitty 18 if you call it "sloppy"....
Yeah, it basically was. Ma audio XL1800. Bought it off a friend for dirt cheap and the box it was in was too small but I was still in school at the time and not working a lot so I wasn't gonna complain.

And yes, while I'm well aware you can get larger woofers to sound as punchy and clear as smaller sized ones, I just don't want to take up my entire hatch giving an 18 4-5 cubes.

I understand that completely, i wish i had room in my hatch //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

I like those dd 8's, be different and run one or two of em...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

strait up comparisons showing technical data and driver specs that would indicate that what I stated "generally speaking" is inaccurate.. I would venture that it is more than likely true that a larger sized woofer when compared to a smaller sized woofer usually can not compare in terms of quickness and response. Very much like a smaller sized woofer can not compare to a larger woofer in terms of cone area and thus air movement. This probably is the consensus if you ask most... but as always.. there maybe exceptions..

However to respond to your rude comments above... in a language that you can understand..

Go have your sister help you ******** and also give back her ***** you stole.

what technical specs dictate the speed of a woofer? The answer is generally considered inductance. Low inductance

allows the driver to react to a change in signal behavior quicker. Other than that nothing else really makes sense. Regardless what most consider faster bass from smaller subs is just less lowend output. After all, speed of a sub is obviously proportional to the frequency it plays. A 60hz tone makes a sub move 60 cycles per second, a 30hz tone only thirty. We obviously percieve a 30hz tone as slower and deeper, because it is. Look at pro audio speakers or even alot of bigger home audio rigs. 12" midranges aren't uncommon. Other than beaming a bigger cone doesn't have any real disadvantages when it comes to playing higher up. Simply control cone breakups, keep inductance low and any size can be used effectively.

You would be proving my point that the generalization is in effect somewhat true.. we know that no two drivers only differing in size would ever have the same behavior or specs as I would assume the whole package works as one unit to produce the end result.

Still I am curious....

show me one 8 inch or 10 woofer (brand and model) then show me one 18 or 21 inch (same brand and same model) ...

show me comparison where one would be equal to the other.... can't be done to invalidate the generalization.

IMO... 18's are almost always sloppy and slow in comparison to other smaller sized quality drivers.
Lol you know nothing leave now pls...

I would say a single 10 or 12 sealed will give you the response your looking for with the music that you listen to. Possibly a Fi Q, TC 3k, Audio Pulse Axis. Something along those lines...

I would take the Audio Pulse LMS Ultra in an 18 over the LMS Ultra in a 10... I know on Audio Pulse website there is no 10 inch model but I had 2 of them made for me since I know Thilo personally.
