Reasons Why Old People Are Just As Bad Of Drivers As Kids

Eh Dere Hi Dere Ho-ser
Some guy wrote a letter to the editor and basically downed every single person under 25 with a license ... basically says they are brutal and all that crap we've all heard before. I know its true, there are some brutal young drivers ... but there are just as many older people who are brutal as well.

So lets hear them ... stories, or just a few lines of reasons why old people are just as a bad of drivers as young people.

Older drivers can be dangerous for many reasons.

I think that a loss of senses (sight, hearing and mind) make older drivers a huge risk on the road.

More frequent testing of older drivers to prove they are still "road worthy" would help out the whole driving community.

And why do I always get behind the slow drivers and in front of the speed demons that have to ride 1 foot off my bumper? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/mad.gif.c18f003ab0ef8a0d9c27ca78d77a6392.gif

Especially old drunk people //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/mad.gif.c18f003ab0ef8a0d9c27ca78d77a6392.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Gauntlet's been helping out a lot ... thanks man.

Just want to shut these people up ... know what I mean?

In response to Dale Babcook’s letter entitled, “Dangerous driving shocks”:

Yes, young people can be horrible drivers. That’s a fact, we all know it. But instead of hunting around looking for people with a green “N” on their back window, how about taking a glance over at the elderly man or woman missing the yield sign and almost running into the child crossing the street. If a young person gets into an accident, then all young drivers are bad. If a person drinking Pepsi gets into an accident, then are all Pepsi drinkers bad drivers?

There is a specific age for kids to drive, irregardless of their qualifications. Why don’t we do the same for the elderly? Their accident rate is right in line with teenagers anyway.

It is a scientific fact that when people get older, their reaction time and judgment become impaired. It’s been proven numerous times that the older you get, the worse it becomes. But of course, there are ways around this “rule”. The same is true for the people who can drive with a blood alcohol level of .20, but don’t we all agree that drunk driving is a bad thing?

Basically what I have so far.

I got two plastic hips, a rebuilt knee, a couple of steel pins in one foot, a metal plate in one arm, and a permanent limp. All thanks to a wonderfull drunk elderly lady that ran into me while I was sitting still. The cops said she sped up to loose them. She said she was trying to beat the light. Old lady had a BAC twice the legal limit. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/mad.gif.c18f003ab0ef8a0d9c27ca78d77a6392.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

You have managed to convince yourself that a few isolated incidents can accurately represent an entire strata of society. You claim that since you see a few young people get into accidents, then young people are intrinsically bad drivers. Last week I saw a person chewing gum drive straight into a guardrail; by your logic, it would be a safe assumption to say that all gum-chewers are bad drivers. In reality, however, this is a ludicrous assessment. Henceforth, your twisted view of comprehension and analysis is also ludicrous. Now that I have debunked your theory, we can officially throw your letter of hogwash and jibberish down the drain, and try to reach a logical conclusion. We are talking about getting the behind the wheel and controlling a two-ton vehicle; no person is prone to an accident; thus, they are called accidents. There's nothing tangible within a specific age range that inherently makes all it's members inferior drivers. The only inherent quality is called being human. Every single person puts their life and the lives of others on the line when they get behind the wheel; accidents and mistakes are inevitable. I suggest you stop trying to pigeonhole an entire age group simply because you'd rather find a scapegoat than a solution.

Close with that. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

old people...... i have seen or heard about 4 or 5 incidents old folks running into the front of buildings. i was eating one time and a old lady thought she put it in reverse instead she puts it in drive and makes a new drive in window in the resaurtant..... hey gaunlet i think its more then a few incidents about people under 25 geting in accidents..... all recorded wrecks and the info about the drivers have been checked by all the main insurance agencies and people under 25 make up alot alot of them. thats why your insurance drops when you get 25.

Hey i didnt say i agreed with it iam under 25 and my insurance is out of the world............ i hate it......... insurance is a business its all about money and if they think some car is more dangerous more likely to be stolen or something along them lines... they have to have higher premium wages.... so they can cover them selves when something does happen..... how do you determine a bad driver when he first starts to drive? you wont know until he wrecks or what not, he might never have any problems. but if it shows that under 25 gets in more wrecks because of less experience they have to cover their ass. womans insurance is also less then mens because woman have less accidents. i try and understand both sides, even if i agree or disagree. i have always been in a agreement if you dont cause a accident or anything you should get some money back from them..... that would make people happy

i got ran off the road one time when someone pulled out in front of me only incident i have been in dont know how much it will raise my insurance yet.

Insurance went up last year or the year before like 25% on sports cars or high performance cars ... forget what it's classified as.

B.C's raising the limits on when you get your license and how you get it again. If you think you have it bad, you have no idea.

slow response time

too slow driving, which is a hazard as driving fast.

they should haev them take the drivers test every year or two.

Being yound ***** insurance wise. I ***** about having to pay $164 USD a month with a clean record, but $800-900 //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif

Just because a person happens to be involved in a certain amount of accidents (that may or may not have been their fault) should not automatically give the insurance companies any right to give them higher premiums.

How often does somebody get a ticket for following too closely, or driving too fast for conditions, as compared to how often someone gets ticketed for speeding? In most cases, the first two offenses could very well be more prone to causing an accident than speeding, and probably happen close to as often as speeding does.

If cops were to actually give out tickets for these offenses as often as they do speeding tickets, then insurance companies would IMO have a much better way of taking drivers with accidents on their records and deciding whether they are just unlucky, or if they are actually higher-risk drivers.

There's plenty more examples of ways for insurance companies to more accurately decide whether someone is a higher-risk driver or not excluding or including age group, but why they don't use them is not readily apparent to me...

For the record, I pay about $400 a month for comprehensive on my car (with no custom equipment coverage //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif ); I have a reckless driving from 2 years ago (that I wasn't guilty of), and an at-fault accident from a 1 year before that. I currently have a "Good Driver" discount because of no accidents in 3 years, but I have court on the 27th for my second reckless driving, which yet again I am not guilty of. I just turned 20 on the 29th, but I guess my rates don't go down until 21, and then again at 25, but I could be wrong.

yeah have a couple people from where i am from One has a 2003 z06 corvette hes about 60 i say and he drives around down doing about 15-20 with about 10 cars behind him. Then we have a guy thats probably closer to 70 that i had a occurence with him just yesterday, i was going up to my school (thats where i work in the summer) and he is parked in the middle of the road so i come up behind him and sit for abou 15 or so seconds and all of a sudden doesnt even look behind in his mirror or anything. He starts to back up and his lights werent even on when doing so and just keeps on going back and back. If i wouldnt have moved i would of got hit by him which he probablly was drunk and who's fault would of it been probably??? Yeah mine.

I just realized that one of the worst things to happen on the road is person A doing 61 passing person B doing 60 ...

Man, just today i was nearly hit three times. once by an old man who cut me off, second by a lady who did the same, and third was another old lady who pulled out into my lane and was driving in it for like 5 seconds. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif i honked my horn and flashed my lights and she realized what she was doing. I tell ya, old people in my city are scary. At the same time old people are some of the nicest people and the meanest. I agree with testing them at a certain age, also with the debate on better drivers...... Kids do have the physical state to be a good driver, some old people with bad hearing , deafness, or vision problems cannot be good drivers and they pose a threat. but whatever....
