Real Buttons?

So my Pioneer Avic-D2 died... well the sirius module died and I was looking at some of the new decks just to see if I should upgrade since the GPS on the Avic is pretty bad.

Looking on the internet it appears that every single new head unit is ALL touch screen.

I don't know why a CAR stereo would be designed like that... since ya know... you should probably not be taking your eyes off the road to see if you have correctly hit the button on your touch screen.

Anyway, the Pioneer I have has a "Source" button that allows me to change between all the radio options... Sirius, CD, Ipod, etc.

And it also has a small knob/joystick that allows you to move between songs or stations.

It accomplishes this all WITHOUT having to look at the unit. Ya know... because driving :/

I'm wondering if any newer units have actual buttons like this. I know the touch screen looks "cool" and all but I don't see the point if it can cause you to wreck because you're trying to select Ipod or Pandora.

So if anyone knows of a newer unit that has real buttons I'd appreciate it.

Spend some time on Crutchfield.com on a computer and compare units. You don't have to get a head unit with minimal buttons, and none of them truly have no physical buttons. There are fewer cars without steering wheel controls today driven by people who will spend the money on a 7" touchscreen head unit from a top brand, plus with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto available there is more voice control becoming an option. I agree that a touch screen can be a serious distraction in terms of ergonomics and safety. Although I think it's a bit dramatic to suggest that a wreck could or has occurred because of toggling between sources. Take a look at Pioneer's NEX series and note how huge the icons can be.

Yeah I don't have steering wheel controls.

As for being "dramatic" I think there are plenty of technology distractions that cause PLENTY of accidents including texting, talking on a cell phone... texting... and texting.

I don't know that the lack of buttons has caused accidents, but I know that every time you take your eyes off the road there's potential for something to happen.

And it's COMPLETELY unnecessary for car stereos to have touch screen controls.... it's kind of dumb IMHO

It's also distracting to spill your coffee, turn to help your kids in the back seat, get something from the glove box, etc. Buy a radio without a touch screen, there are lots of good ones. Wait, you want GPS navigation in the dash, you need a touch screen radio.

I didn't start this to get your opinion on if I should buy a touchscreen radio.

I HAVE a touchscreen for my GPS now. The only reason I'm looking for a radio... well read the first post.

And your logic is flawed but I'm not going to get into an argument with you about it. Either give me a suggestion on a newer radio that has something similar to what I'm looking for or kindly leave the thread.

Let's blame the touchscreen for the accident, no way its the drivers fault right?
Ditto

ALPINE INE-960 has buttons along the left side for commonly used functions. it may be your best option. or buy a vehicle that has steering wheel controls and add an ASWC-1 to any aftermarket unit...
