RE MX15's vs. RE SX15's

I had three 15" sx's with 1500 watts to each. They got hella loud, but I always want more(y'all know how it is, lol!). I ordered three MX 15's, and I plan on dropping them in the same box (12 cubes net - 34hz.). Also, I'm gonna upgrade to 6K watts to give each one 2K(although rms is 1500 anyway).

For right now, it's gonna be the same 1500 watts each though. Anybody think I made a mistake? Shouldn't the mx's (theoretically) be louder? Play deeper? Sound better? Anyone make the same swap? Opinions?

I was gonna do xxx's, but I don't have the power nor the space to do them justice.

if you spent the money for MX's, i would of just got the XXX's. i couldnt imagine to hear 2-4 XXX 15's or 18's ported.....or sealed..... which would be nuts //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

yeah...pretty big price difference between the two though. Besides that, I actually did order the xxx's, and after researching a little more, I am understanding that the MX's will actually be louder on 2K rms than the xxx's (most generally agree that the xxx's need 2500 watts or more to shine).

So I switched up my order to "settle" for the mx's... having a little buyer's remorse though. Folks have really raved about the sx's, and although I was definitely not disappointed, I just want louder, and I hope the mx's do the job.

Well...that's something I guess, lol!
its gonna be hard to get much more out using the same power and same size woofers.

you have a little advantage going with a bit more power, but 1500 extra watts, when dealing with 4500 already isnt much. thats only 33% more and you need to double wattage to see a theoretical 3db increase, which usually isnt going to happen. so just by bs-ing around with the whole power idea, you would only be gaining 1db.

now, maybe the mx are more effecient, or maybe have more upper or lower end. and if the sx's were lacking in either area for you, the mx's might fill in that void and be louder in that certain freq region (kind of like how i went from a btl to an hdc, and gained upper end response even using the same power, which of course meant the hdc was louder but didnt just completely destroy my btl. it was just louder in a certain range which helped fill the gap).

but just going off your small increase in power, same cone area, same box and everything, i would set your hopes low just in case. when i ran the sx's they got loud for sure, they just didnt sound great. i have no experience with the mx, but from what i have read, they should sound quite a bit better.

fair enough. I do expect a noticeable increase in loudness, but I'm not expecting a miracle... If better sq is all that I get, so be it. That was also one of my complaints about the sx's - they sounded ok, but not good. I can live with that, lol!

Now I'm wondering if it'll even be worth it to spend the extra $ on the extra 1500 watts, ya know? You brought up some pretty valid points. Fer sure I'm gonna see how they sound as-is first. Thx mayne!

i would definitely just try it out on the same power for now, see what you get, and then make a decision.
