So I went to my cuzzins house today and he said he sub wasnt working I told him to pull it out of the box so I could test it with a DMM to see whats up but left it at my house so couldnt do that.... When he pulled his sub out I smelt a burnt smell nd took a look at his spiders nd it was black on one side when I touched it it jus crumbled... The coil moves freely still... What do you guys think might have happened? Clipping? or maybe wires came loose nd touched for too long? I know when I clipped the shit out of my Mmat dreadnauts they never died just got super stinky (That was years ago when I 1st got into car audio)

Also whats the recone policy for the RE MX? I kno you have to send it in or sumthin like that right?

Heat made the spider brittle. If it was close to the tinsel leads, I would suspect them as the culprit. Otherwise, the coil itself got extremely hot to do this. A continuity test would confirm if the coil is shorted. A bad spider would not cause the speaker to stop working altogether, it would just operate poorly due to loss of suspension.

How do I do that? (Continuity Test)?
