rca next to power

What do you do when you have NO CHOICE in running rca line in to amp by the power and ground wires? Is there simple shielding methods you can use after the fact?

top quality rca's in this situation is all i can really think off...usually the better the rca the better the shielding

not sure if this works for RCA's but go to radioshack and buy some 2" ferrite doughnuts(basicly a doughnut shaped magnet.) wrap the RCA cables around the magnet a few times in three places. usually the center of the run, and each end. ive used this a few times and it reduced EMF noise introduced into speakers. BUT this was in a Home environment.

no worries with power and RCA. DC electricity doesn't have the same issues as 60Hz AC when it comes to inducing noise.

mat3833, I'm not too familiar with that, but from what I know, shouldnt those be wrapped around the offending equipment rather than the one experiencing problems?

I've never had a problem, but I only use OFC power wire and high quality shielded RCAs like Monster and Knu.

You will hear varied reports of folks who have experienced noise issues that went away when they separated the power and RCA cables, but most of us contend that the problem was elsewhere and the results are coincidence. I have run power and RCAs together and never had an issue.

BTW the field strength of a raditated noise signal decreases with the square of the distance, which means that even a small separation makes a difference in how much noise can be picked up. So if you're concerned, just don't tie wrap them together.

I've ran on the same side in quite a few cars with no issue when it was a pita to take the other half of the car apart. No issues at all for me using cheap RCAs and some Walmart kits. But when possible I try to run on desperate sides.
