RCA connections set off protection light

Specs:

2001 Toyota Tundra w/stock head unit

Sony amp

JL audio subwoofer w/stealthbox

I just installed a Sony amp to replace another amp and whenever I plug in the RCA connectors from the head unit, the protection light would turn on and theres no sound. I've tried using my ipod to plug in to the RCA connectors and there's sound and the protection light is off.

The troubleshooting manual (i know RTFM) can't help me since nothing is short circuited.
