Anyone here into RC vehicles, specifically helicopters.

My father just bought one and now my brother and I are considering getting them as well.

My fathers is battery powered and all of his friends swear by them, but I was thinking about the gas powererd one.

Wanted to know if anyone has any experience with either, and which ones

would be better for the beginner.

i use to be into the cars, helped build a truck that went almost 40mph. then had a monster truck that was indestructable. i even drove it off the 2nd story of our house, and kept working fine. that thing was awesome.

Yea, a guy I ride with has a car that does like 40mph also. That thing is borderline SICK.

The guy across the street from my parents used to build helicopters, that's when my dad & I first talked about it, but after he moved, we kind of forgot about it.

One of my dads HAM buddies got him back into it and it looks fun as hell, although he wont let me touch his.

yeah its a pretty expensive hobby, but what hobby isn't expensive //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
Maybe that's why I'm soooooo poor, probably need to cut out a hobby or two.

Mini electric is the way to go for a beginner . Preferably one with channel mixing . Gas require 8 channels and the use , and control of all of them by the pilot . Better to start small , as crashes are a lot cheaper with the mini's . Another plus would be practice time . Can't fly the gas inside , but you can the electrics //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Lot more to flying a helicopter than driving a car as you may have noticed . You got to worry about throttle , collective pitch , elevator , and the tail rotor . Plus a gyro takes up another channel . Each takes up a channel ( some two) on the radio. Channel mixing takes the throttle and pitch and runs them collectively using the same stick //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

40mph is nothing my brushless setup TC3 does 80ish real MPH not scale

My 18t is pushing close to 80 with a 3 cell lipo and a 9600kv dynamite brushless . That is until I hit a pebble and it turns into a 4wd airplane //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

From what I know of the copters you can get beginner ones with "emergency piloting/control".....if you accidentally let it go out of range of the radio it automatically rights itself and goes into either hover or lands straight down.....

I use to be into off road cars...way back in the 80's when the Hornet by MRC Tamiya was the big thing.....had one of those and a Grasshopper....both battery powered but quick little suckers.....

As for starting out with a copter I would definately go with electric for all of the above stated reasons....they're cheaper to fix and can be flown nearly anywhere for practice purposes.....The only one i've ever flown was a 4 channel electric inside a football stadium sized fairground building.....wicked fun but scary as hell when you mess something up....especially on somebody elses copter.........//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
