Radio install directly to battery

My mustang has a Bad General electric module (Gem) and it caused the radio to stop working. Fuse isnt blown. Is there a way to just wire up my radio straight to the battery. Pretty much just bypass the the electrical module in the vehicle. I figured i just shut off my radio when I m not driving or hook up a toggle switch.

Now my mustang is a 2000 model, pretty much a POS so its not guna matter much. BTW Its not stock radio, I have aftermarket put in.

i like getting an inexpensive 10awg amp install kit to bypass factory wiring for HU power. 10awg is large enough to minimize voltage drop while also letting you run other accessories off the power wire (if desired), like a factory amp.

you do want the HU to be ignition switched, but you can still bypass wiring with a simple relay. i've developed a diagram just for that:

the factory amp may have separate power, but you'll need to verify with a pin-out of the harness or a trusty DMM to measure voltage (if there is any).

the BOSCH/TYCO relay will have a 30A contact. if you use a 10awg amp kit you'll have a 30A fuse and 30A of capability. that is plenty for the factory HU and factory amp. you just need to figure out how the factory amp is powered currently by finding a wiring diagram for your car. Ford Mustang forums are the best place for a wiring diagram since they are vehicle specific forums.
