I just installed a bx1600d hifonics amp with 2 aw1006T audiobahn subs. the problem I am facing is that I dont know how to eq the amp. Here are the following options:

Subsonic: allows control from 15hz to 35hz

Bass EQ: allows control from 0db to 8db

Low Pass: allows control from 35hz to 250hz

Phase: shift allows 0 degrees to 180 degrees

Level: allows you to match the amplifier input level(gain) to the radio/cd output level.

The amp is 3000 watts max and 1800 watts rms. The subs are 1800 watts max and 900 watts rms. I have the two subs bridged down to 1 ohm each. (I have both positive wires from each sub going into 1 jack on the amp and both negative wires from each sub going into 1 jack on the amp.

Can someone explain to me what these do and what I should roughly set them at? I have a 5volt preout on my deck.

I have an 4 gauge amp kit with a 60 amp fuse. Is this enough?

Thanks for the help!

bump...

Another question, does anyone know why with my HU turned down, my subs would just fire off sparatically?

anyone have any advice?

Are these calcutations correct?

Gain Setting:

Sqrt(1800 watts *1 ohm) = 42.3 volts

Fuse Size:

1800 watts/ 42.3 volts = 42.3 amps (I have a 60 amp fuse)

According to my calculations, my fuse should be fine even with the amp turned all the way up to 3000 watts.

Is this all correct?

Thanks,

I havent worked with car stereo stuff in a long time...(hints the stupid questions). I just realized that I need to run these speakers parallel with means they need their own terminal. I am still confused about how they are bridged to 1 ohm. I have the +/- terminals on the subs bridged down from 4ohms to 2 ohms then running the subs parallel to the amp. The amp is rated at 1 ohm. Am I missing a piece to the puzzle? Is there a way to test my sub wiring with a volt meter? Can someone please reply back, I am not getting very far talking to myself.

Thanks,

P.S. Sorry for the dumb questions.

Yep, all positive wires of the subs to the positive amplifier terminal, same thing for the negative...I do not use a DMM to set my gains, cz i found it to be very ineficcient:D specially when it comes to subs. Ur calculations are OK yes, but thats all theory dude. I learned to set the HU volume to about 3/4 or u can use a 1KHZ 0dB test tone to see where ur HU volue clips, and then i use a normal powerfull bass( the kind i mostly listen to) and keep cracking gains till distortion and then back off. For the sub u cannot hear or notice distortion easily, so i rely on visualizing the cone if its is pumping too hard...with speakers u can directly notice and hear distorion.

Oh, and if u are using a sealed box, turn off the subsonic filter (15Hz), if a ported box, i think that usually they set it 8Hz lower than the tuning frequency of the box.

It is recomended to keep bass boost/eq to 0dB, but sometimes if my HU preout voltage is very low, even with gain set at maximum i do not get any result so i turn on bass boost:D but not too much. Use Low Pass Filter, try setting it at around 70-80Hz and go up or down a bit while playing a cd.Not more than 100-120Hz. I set mine to about 55-60Hz.Keep the phase to 0.

Wait...I have 1 positive and 1 negative wire coming out of each box. The sub terminals are linked together inside the box (like the diagram shows). Are you saying that each wire coming out of the box gets its own terminal or the positive wires should go to a single amp terminal and the negative wires should go to a single amp terminal?
