Queston about Formula for cu. ft

I was reading around and I found the formula for figuring out cu. ft. The formula was length X width X height in inches divided by 1728. I understand that but how do you figure it out if you have a slanted truck box. For example, the length is 20, the top width is 5, the bottom width is 8, and the height is 14. Just wondering. I am not very good with math and figuring this kind of stuff out but it is something that I need to know. Thanks for all of the help!

think of your box as 2 parts

1. a square HxWxL / 1728 (14x5x20 / 1728)

2. as a triangel (base x hight x lenght /1728) /2 (14x3x20 /1728)/2

When you get the two different totals do you just add them together? In this case .81 and .24 to get a total of 1.05.

correct. are these inside out outside measurements because if they are outside you must take into account the thickness of your wood

Those were outside measuerments.

after you take into accout wood thickness (3/4") your left with a box .72cf

Volume = (Area of Base) x (Height of object) This holds true for many many shapes.
