Q about HO alts

haha 33 views and no answer??? I was going somewhere with this just waiting to see people's replies. Anyway, i have this HO alt and had to send it in for repair after 2 weeks of it being installed. (stopped charging) My girl talked to the rep and he told her that I can't listen to more than 2 or three songs before it'll get too hot wtf!? What's the point of it then?? Well, I'm hoping she misunderstood him and i'll find out tomorrow b/c it should arrive and he wrote what happened. And YES Big 3 done in 1/0 and batteries were FULLY charged prior to installing.

well the thing is when it worked , it worked great! But I don't see a point of not being able to bump for hours at a time if i needed to cross states or whatever. It's a mechman 250a by the way. I live in the south and if heat will be too much of a problem for it, i would have just gotten a D3100. Ups lame *** didn't deliver today so hopefully i get it tomorrow and hook it up this weekend and see how it goes.

@Enellz

so far all i know is that it overheated but I wasn't bumping hard at all. Guess I'll have to wait till tomorrow to see exactly what went wrong. I even have a Deka 9a31 in the back by the amps so i don't get why it happened in the first place.

I've been hearing a lot about the over-heating issues. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif
what would you consider overheating...the hottest i have seen mine is 130 using a ir thermometer..i dunno if this is to hot or not...all i know is if i need to take it easy on it i will because i cant afford to buy a new one or have it fixed

Heats gonna happen no matter what. Its just the internals not being able to handle it. Over-heating is a copout. The alternator should be able to handle it. I've never had any issues with mine and I measured mine with an infrared heat gun for my R/C up to 200 degrees and they still work. Also dropping to 12v flat for a good 30 mins straight demoing on a single alternator.

well that makes me feel better...mine never drops below 13.5 and if it drops below 14 it is very very briefly... and seeins how mine is only runnin my two batts and amp and NOTHING else it should have an easy life especially when i am not thumping....i take it you run a dc power?

I have an OG HO alt, 2 kinetik 2400's, Big 3 done 1/0 throughout, and jam for hours at a time very minimal voltage drop...
I have a very similar setup, and have no voltage issues at all even when full tilt //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif Id say under 5k youll be good with 2 batts.
