Putting power to sealed vs. ported boxes

Hi guys

I was just curious, and please dont flame, if you were to apply the same amount of amp power in the same car, to say a couple of subs that are sealed vs ported ones, would the subs that are in the sealed box be more at risk of damage if running them in a SPL comp where you gotta put the subs to their limits to get the highest number possible, compared to ported where airflow is of course obvious ??

It's really frequency dependent. In a ported box if you play too low below tuning the sub will essentially be as if it is being free-aired. The sub will move the least around tuning.

Are you really asking if ported enclosures allow higher thermal power handling? Well, it's not going to be enough to really say unless the sealed enclosure is very, very, small.
yeah. i just assumed the ported enclosure could take more of a beating/power since it does have a port for airflow compared to a sealed one. the sealed box wouldnt be any special type or REALLY small, just avergaed sized for most 12" subs.

forgot to mention the subs used would be 12"
