There is no 'regular' ported enclosure, if there is a port of any kind then it is just called a ported enclosure. Be it a slot, or a round port, it is generally just preference of the user. 50^2 inches of port area using round ports would yield no advantage, or disadvantages, over 50^2 inches of area with a slot port.

Now, an 'aero port' will have less port noise than a slot port that is comparable in surface area. An aero port is a round port with a flared, or bell shaped, edge. This reduces the turbulance of the air, subsequently requiring less port area than a slot port to achieve the desired outcome without noise.
