Program to Convert Various Vids To MP4

Does anyone have a program, or know where i can get a FREE program that converts all kinds of formats to MP4, because i got a ipod video and i would want to get my vids onto it. But they arent Mp4's.

I can prolly look some more on downloads.com , but im not sure which program is best. Gimme some feedback please.
