OK so here is the problem... I bought a Brand New Pioneer DEH-p790BT and installed it and ran it for about 20 days and then poof... I dont work anymore... So i send it in for repair... I borrow a friends old Pioneer DEH 360 and run it for about two weeks and same thing happens to it... So now I just bought another 790BT while my other one gets fixed... Before i install it what should i be looking for so this dosent happen again..

I used my DMM and checked the Ignition wire and Battery wire and they both are good,, I dunno if I have a speaker shorted out as they are still stock... The only thing that I could think that may be causing the problem is my relay for my back batteries... Im running it off of my ignition wire that goes to my cd player...

Any help would be awsome.. I kind of want to have a Headunit that last longer then a month

And one more thing... All of my fuses are fine...

Pioneer head units have a protection circuit built into them that will shut off the ic chip(internal amp) when it sees a short to ground or a dead short from a bad voice coil... I would check all of your speaker leads and see if they are shorted to ground, I would aslo check the impedance of the speakers to make sure they are within a tolerable reading, as in from 3.4-8 ohms.

You mentioned something about a relay for you batteries in the back...did you use a step-up relay on your remote turn on lead for your amps? I know there are several amps that will pull a lot of current on the remote lead and if you "fry" the remote turn on output it has been known on occasion to take out the internal amp with it... hope this helps any

The relay is to disconnect my back batteries from my front battery.. So they wont die on me... When both units failed they did Identical things... I would get in my car and turn it on and the headunit wouldnt turn on so I turn the car off and turn my key back to the acc setting and it would turn on... Then I would start the car again and it would turn off so I tried it again by turning the key back and nothing happend. So i turn the car on and it would work again but then it would shut off... It would do this like 4 times then after that it wouldnt word no more... They both did that which really makes me wonder because I highly doubt that two headunits would die the same way.. So that why im thinking its the wiring in the car,

The radio is wired as an accessory, when you start the car the accessory circuit dies and only the igntion circuit stays energized when starting...when it returns from start the accessory circuit isn't picking back up...

I have tried hooking both units up to one of my back batteries to see if they still worked and they both arent powering on... So whatever happened ****ed them both up.... I metered the speaker wires and im getting good ohm readings from all four speakers.... I tested my ignition and battery wires again and they are reading fine... Could it be that both headunits just gave out on there own??? If the RCA's touch together could that fry the headunit??? Also if the remote wire grounded out could that ruin a headunit without ruining the amp its hooked to?
