Problems with alpine 9811?

I just got my alpine HU from discountjungle.com, great shipping, but i believe i got a bad HU.

I have a '95 Grand AM I used the right harnesses for the alpine, and as soon as i plugged the harness into the back of my alpine, my interior light shorted out as well as my cluster lights and the HU started to lighty smoke from the back.

did i get a bad HU, i double checked everything and i did it all correctly.

If i didnt, can someone help me, by giving me the instructions to hardwire it?

I doubt the head unit was bad. You probably fried your unit by not being careful with the wiring. Sometimes it is best (and less expensive) to let someone with more experience do the installs.

If you can email me a picture of the back side of the unit I might be able to tell you more.

Yeah, i think i figured it out, my impatient *** couldnt wait for a friend to put it in, so i plugged it in with my a kenwood harness (i had a kenwood before) And my dome light went out and my fuse on my dash lights blew. When my friend connected it with the alpine harness that came with the HU, he spliced and made sure everything was correct, and the same thing happened, lights went out. And the HU emitted smoke from the back, Whats that about about?
