Pro and Cons of ur tuning

I know when you buy a sub, it has recommended stats. Usually when porting that is a recommended tuning. Should you go by manufacting tuning or your own choice?

I like my own.....low tuning for my setup removes the enclosure peaks. and gives a generally flat response in the vehicle

The manufacturers tuning is normally the tuning that is best suited for the sub.

Examples would be the AQ HDC sounds best on all music in the 38-40 hz range. It can play lower while being tuned that high, and most people who originally tune to 35, move their tuning up to 38 and say they liked it better.

The exceptions to this are if you like really low music for say a FI Q, instead of tuning to 32 or 30, you may tune to 26 or 28. If you like a really flat response across the board, someone would tune their port very low 20-22 and this would yield a lower output but very flat response.

I'm tuning 2 18"s to 28hz in 14 cubes..

holy poop.

i like lower tuning myself. had my 15"q at 30hz , and it killed the lows. had my lethal injection at 32hz. while it did play the lows well , i just wanted more.

next build , ill probably tune 28-30hz.

I know. When I started talking about tuning super low, 20-25 hz I was not referring to the Q's, just subs in general. Even if I was though, I meant the point to be more a long the lines of the Q's response would be more flat (but still not flat obviously) at a tuning of 20-25 hz than at a tuning of 32 hz.

So I if had a sub like the Pioneer spl 3000 and wanted monster lows while sounding good, whats a good tuning? Maybe 32 Hz? The spl part throws a lot of people off. A friend of mine had 4 of these in his suv and the low notes knocked his driver side window off track. A shop built that box so I don't know the tuning.
