PPI PCX 480 shutting down

I have a PPI PCX 480 4 channel amp that I have had for 5 years. Its an amazing mids and highs amp until recently. I just had my old system put in my new car including that amp and after about 15 to 20 minutes it overheats and shuts off. With further inspection my car installer said the built in fan does not work anymore. His solution was installing an outside mini-fan to blow on it to cool it down. My question is will that truly work????? Or is it just a temporary band-aid? I have noticed that my mids and highs are not as clean as they used to be and I was wondering if that had anything to do with my amp. thanks

I would just open the amp up, and find a replacement fan and diy.

unfortunately I am not that inclined, nor do I have the time or patience. And those amps are discontinued so it would be hard to find the part. Do you think the outside fan would do the job???

The heatsink on those amps is internal, and the internal fan is designed to pull air along the inner heat sink. An external fan would probably do very little. My PCX always ran warm.

Finding a replacement is as easy as taking the back panel off and looking at the fans ratings, then look those up online. Its only 2 wires.
