PPI Ax400 . . . can two channels run at 4-ohms and the other two channels at 2-ohms?

Hey Guys,

Like the title says: I have a PPI Art Ax400 amp that I would like to use to power my Focal Utopia 165W components in the front (4-ohm load) and the RE-XXX 6.5" Mids in the rear (2-ohm load). Is this safe for the amplifier? I know that my installer had it hooked up this way in my car for a week or two and it sounded pretty good, but I am worried about maybe wrecking the amp.

Thanks,

Bryan

As long as the amp is 2ohms stable it will be just fine.

I see you are from Canada as well . . . would you happen to be from Ontario and know some good installers in any of the areas between Toronto and Kitchener? I need to have the following changes done but don't like doing wiring stuff myself:

- Change the ID sub from Parallel wiring to Serial Wiring

- Switch the Focal Utopias from the US Amps 400x to the two unused channels of the PPI Ax400 (the other two channels are used by the XXX mids)

- Hook the ID sub up to the US Amps 400x by bridging the amp. At 4-ohms it should put out 400W RMS

- Make it all look tidy in my trunk again

I think this setup should be pretty good. I am always scared about messing up wiring because I don't really know how to bridge an amp and all that stuff, so I leave it to the pros.

Thanks,

Bryan

Or maybe I could attempt this myself? I just really don't know:

a.) How to bridge the US Amps 400x. Do just use the positive of one channel and the negative of the other channel?

b.) Where I put the RCAs. Two pairs of RCAs should go into the PPI Ax400 (for the Utopias and the XXX mids)? Do I only putone RCA into the US Amps 400x because I am running in mono?

I don't see a sticky thread for beginner DIY wiring. If I am just missing it, can someonee post a link?

Thanks,

Bryan
