PPI 356cs DESTROYS the competition - My short take

Wow. Finally got these in the mail from Sonic Electronix ($139 + shipping), and let me tell you, the build quality is absolutely insane. I believe the woofer is made, or was made, by A/D/S (some of you might be able to confirm this). The tweeter is a 1" silk dome, that is on axis. I thought it would be hard to top the build quality of my 720PRS Xovers, but the PPI's walk all over it. They are HUGE and very solid and heavy.

I was unsure of running passive, after running active for well over a year now and absolutely LOVING it. But, I found a hell of a deal on a Phoenix Gold Xenon X200.4, and couldn't pass it up. I really wanted to run just one amp, and I heard such great things about the passive Xovers on the PPI's that I figured, what the hell, why not? So I plan on bridging the rear channels to run an RSD 10", within the next couple weeks.

For those of you that don't know, PPI conservatively rates the 356cs at 60 rms per side (LOL), and my amp does north of 200 x 4 at 1-4 ohms RMS.

Anyway, I've gone through a lot of front stage mixes and matches and active and passive over the last 2 years.

Clif Designs (passive (newb LOL)

Pioneer 720PRS (passive, then mids active eventually paired with VC100 tweeters)

Dayton RS180 (active)

Blaupunkt VC100 (active, amazing set of tweeters btw)

ID OEM mids (active)

PG RSD mids (active)

And here are the following amps I've gone through.

Phoenix Gold 4-channel (low end model from a few years back)

JL 300/2

eD Nine.5

Eclipse XA4000

Alpine PDX-150.4

Mb Quart DSC125.4

Orion 6002

Autotek MM125.2

And now my most recent amp, the Xenon.

Wow, I've never heard such a clean amp, it walks all over the above mentioned, and correct me if I'm wrong, it's a class-d. The next in line would have to be the XA4000, which was also a class-d I believe.

The Xenon is rated at over 80% efficiency, and is known to be considerably underrated from what I understand.

Oh, my doors are fully deadened, inside and out, with Damplifier/Pro

So, here is a short take on MY opinion of the 356cs.

Like I said, build quality is top notch, no questions asked. The set came with at least 100 feet of speaker wire, I shit you not.

Here are a few songs that knocked me off my feet, that REALLY stood out to me, and all these are mid-quality MP3.

J-Holiday - Suffocate (WOW, midbass and midrange is top-notch while the mids blend absolutely beautifully with the tweeters).

The Game - Hate it or Love it Remix (I've always been a big fan of this song, I always demo this song to people who like hip hop/rap, it's a great demo song. It makes your front stage shine with full, rich sound).

I also listened to a few Creed songs, along with Crossfade, and Staind, and the midbass and acoustics are unreal.

I'm SHOCKED guys. I'm enjoying songs that I haven't been able to appreciate before.

These have 9/10's the midbass of the ID OEM (and are much more crisp and accurate, along with better acoustics), and step above the 720PRS mids (which are great mids to start off with), and the tweeters are much more crisp and laid back than the 720PRS tweeters (I only ran them passive).

I know this isn't a full, in-depth review, but I figured I'd help some of you guys out that are on the fence.

No questions asked, best set of components I've ever ran. And they are taking the power from my amp like a champ.

Get 'em while they last. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

I much prefer them over my 720PRS set...but that's just me. I think they sound pretty **** good for a passive set.

Come on guys, $139!! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I've been out of the hobby for a while and picked these up. Going active with them and so far I like the tweets.. Haven't got to install the mids yet though.. they are a bit big.

Gotta find time to cut my door..

2.5" mounting depth isn't bad, I had to make a 3/4" MDF baffle for mine to fit.

And yes, the tweeters sound good. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Theres only a small hole in my door where the magnet can go, these magnets are pretty big.. So i'll have to cut my door when I get the time. The depth fits though..

I've always had this same problem with mids with my car ever since i got into the hobby. Always been lazy to cut it though. LOL

Never got to use my SLC 265kick mids or my Mach5 mids.. and now these!
