powering head unit without completely connecting it?

hey, doing an install on a friends car and we want to be sure that the HU he has actually works before we tear into his dash, whats the best way to get the HU to power up without completely installing it? thanks

Touch the power to your battery pos terminal and the ground to your battery ground terminal

Get a power supply from a computer...there are a few threads on how to hook it up on here. I'll try to find you one.

i use car chargers, extra batteries , anything with enough to power it , i have a bad habit of forgeting to eject cd's so i do this alot...lol....

shouldnt. the HU has a fuse

No difference between hooking it to the car's wiring or the battery directly.

Do what jco said and put the wires on the battery. Have your friend hold the head unit to make it much easier.

Be sure to connect the ground to the battery first and secure it. Don't want it accidentally coming off or slide around. Could cause a surge which could damage your HU.
