I think we are all fools for contributing to the Powerball drawings. I've not read all four pages of this thread, so this may have been brought to your attention. But, does anybody know why the Powerball jackpots have been going to record amounts lately? It's because they keep adding numbers (or balls) to the till. When Powerball started, there were 42 balls (if I remember correctly) in the till. You had to match 5 of those balls plus the Powerball to win the jackpot. Pretty impossible odds to win! But WAIT, there are now 69 balls (a 65% increase in the number of balls in the till). Yeah, if you win you are set for life. But, you know you are not going to win. I don't know the mathematical odds, but astronomical is overly generous. I think the government is going about this all the wrong way. Instead of adding numbers to the Powerball, I think they should be subtracting numbers. What does this do? Well, it means more people winning. It's called spreading the wealth. Wouldn't it be better for a bunch more people winning $8 million dollars than one person winning $1.5 billion. Yeah, I'd love to win $1.5 billion. I'd be just as happy if I won $8 million. I certainly wouldn't be complaining if I won $8 million. But, look at how many people would be better off. What do you think?
