Power Won't Come On...Need Help Tapping Into Switched 12V Volt Fuse...I Think

I have a 2006 Chevy Cobalt. I bought a new cd receiver. I connected all the connections except for this one wire that came with the kit I bought that says it is for tapping in to a switched 12v volt fuse. As it is connected now, the power doesn't come on with the new stereo/cd receiver, so I am guessing it is because I need this red switched 12v volt wire connected?? Ok...so I am looking at the fuse box and I know nothing about fuses. First off, I have looked pretty darn good at the diagram for the fuse box and it looks nothing like the actual fuse box I am seeing! Nothing matches up. Can anyone explain this?? Secondly, back to this red wire. I am assuming I take the one end of the red wire and twist it to the end of the matching red wire that came with the new cd receiver? And then, the other end has to connect to the fuse box somewhere? Is this right so far? How do I connect the other end to the fuse box? I know it says to tap in to the ignition fuse. I don't know where that is or how to tell where it is? I would think by being able to interpret the diagram I should be able to locate it and correctly "tap" in without having to do a volt or light test. Please explain exactly what and how "tapping in" is done and anything else I need to know. Thanks in advance for any help with this. I have spent the whole week trying to install this myself.

Also, one thing I am wondering about the fuse box is I how to interpret the diagram. When I look at the actual fuse box it looks as though there are two separate sections. One section that is pretty much all black and has what I believe are fuses with numbers on them all over. Then below this is another section that is like all red that has wires connected to them...red wires that look like the red wire included in my kit. Which section am I tapping in to? I think the black section with the numbered fuses would be the section, but then, the red section has wires going in to it just like the wire I have, so then I am thinking it could be stuck in there just like the other wires are. Which one is the right place? I will try to attach a picture of what I am talking about if possible.
