Power Wiring - noob question

Hey,

I'm a noob to car audio and have a couple questions.

I'm trying to install a 300 watt RMS (into 4 ohms) amp and sub into my 2004 Sebring convertible.

The battery in my car is behind the left fender. I really don't want to remove my fender to access the battery, but I will if I have to. THere are positive and negative "jump start terminals" under the hood. Would there be any problem with wiring my amp from the positive jump start terminal instead of directly from the battery? Also, if I remove the battery lead from the negative jump start terminal, would that be sufficient to disconnect the battery, or is it also grounded somewhere else? If I left the battery fully connected during my install, what are the chances I would **** something up?

One more thing - What gauge power wire should I run for my amp? I don't need top of the line wire, but what would the minimum be? What about if I want to add a 400 watt amp later on for mids...what gauge wire would I need to handle both amps combined?

THanks in advance - these forums are very informative.

1) You can use the jump start terminals

... It's done like that EVERYDAY!

2) You can disconnect the ground from the jump start terminal - that's fine.

3) 4ga will be your choice. ( $45 for the amp kit - usually )
