power caps

i have a power cap and i was wondering exactly what was wrong with them because everyone in here seem to talk bad about them does everyone else know something i dont? can someone tell me facts on what is wrong with them?

the main reason people buy caps is because they have power problems and they heard from a friend that if you buy one that it will fix your power problems. This is completely and utterly wrong. If you're having power problems and you add a cap, it will only make things worse because now your alternator has to power the amps, battery, AND a cap. If you're having power problems, the only answer is to buy a new alternator or get your factory one rewound. People on here don't buy them or even reccommend them because, in general, it's a waste of money.

ok i see what you mean but i got one because at night my head lights would blink just a little bit not much at all but i didn't like it and i decided to get the cap and now i have no blinking what so ever and its not because the amp isn't ******* power it did what i wanted it to do and if ever it burns up my alt. i'll get a bigger one

its only a temporary solution to a much bigger problem that needs to be addressed, or else your electrical system will die after a while...

so what would normally be a sufficient amp amount for an alternator. lets take for example my system. i'll have an 800 watt amp driving one ten in sub, and a 600 watt amp driving my 4 speakers. any suggestions?

It'd be nice to know that name and model #'s of the amps...are are those RMS numbers?

ok i was going to recomend something like i have i have a mcdermotteb series and they go around 140-200

i looked at what they have, and my friend's dad knows a crapload about pool, he's been playing for like 40 years, and he said that mcdermott(sp?) is a good beginer brand, but if i had the money, by all means go for the cuetec because it's better. that's just what he said.

The watts dont matter as much as how much amperage each amp draws. This is the info we need to help you more:

1) The amperage draw of each amp (or give us the model #'s and fuse rating)

2) How many amps your current alt puts out
