Power but no display

Recently tried to install a new JVC KD-R640 into my 2006 Dodge Ram 1500. I have all the wires matched up with the wire harness. However there are 2 yellow and 2 black wires on the harness and only one of each on the wires coming from the stereo. Do these need to be attached? I have tried different combinations of the four wires connected and not connected. What am I doing wrong? Also when I plug the stereo it does make a winding noise and then stops. Thanks in advance!

you have it wired wrong

it's not as easy as matching colours on the deck to the colours in the car..... start with finding the constant pwr, earth and accessories wires in the car dash that were originally used for the other deck.

The winding is most likely the hu checking for a cd. Also are your sure your not getting display? Mabey the led or lights in the faceplate are bad/defective. See if the place you bought it from can do a swap?

Also try twisting red and yellow together then touch black to your - battery turminal then yellow/red to + and see if it comes on like that. If not its definately bad or defective. If it does come on then those wires are dead/not hooked to anything

I found the problem was I needed the $60+ Pac adapter. I have found that I can just wire the power to a fuse in my fuse panel. Now my question is what fuse can I wire it to? I have the wire ran, just need to know to which one.

The issue with your truck is there is no accessory power because the original stereo works off of data. The easiest place to catch acc is from the cigarette socket below the radio

you can wire it to pretty much any fuse that will have a constant 12v source. something like a dome light fuse it will shut off when you shut the door
