ported sub suggestions

looking for suggestions on a sub. definitely want it ported as I've heard its the best application for the audio profile of my car from several of the car audio gurus on my car forums. I am mainly focused on SQ as opposed to SPL. however I do want some boom, but nothing ridiculous.

10" or 12"

was looking at Digital Designs or Audioque as I've heard they are good for ported applications. Will probably try to buy used so budget is under 250 and I've seen several posted of the brands I listed for well under that.

Thanks again. also I know its the wrong forum, but amp recomendations for any subs suggested would be great as well.

If you're focused on SQ but still want to get loud when you want to, I'd recommend the TC Sounds LMS-R. Lots of clean stroke, put it in ~2.25ft^3 tuned to 30-32hz and you'll be happy.

I'd personally stay away from DD and AQ based on what you said you're looking for. They can get loud but just do not sound that good to me, no matter what install I hear them in.

thanks a bunch, thats the kinda stuff im looking for, i only thought of DD and audioque because i heard they were designed for ported applications, but I really do want it to sound good first.

SSD is a good choice as well...but IMO the LMS-R is just superior in pretty much every way...and the price shows.

havent heard much about the TC, but everyone highly recommends the Fi Q, so I think im gonna go with that (and its a little cheaper), to avoid starting a new thread, any one have any cheap amplifier suggestions.

It baffles me why people still think this. I guess its like an urban legend or some shit.

Anyways, the FI Q isn't a bad idea, or even an Older RE SX (pre-sellout version).

But honestly if it were me going for pure sound quality, id try to find a PG Cyclone. Plus, after that you'd have the biggest dick in the SQ competiions if you ever went that route later on. There are a couple of people that have them for sale now around the car audio forums.

Or just shell out the cash for an Aurasound NS12, Morel UW1258

IMO some of the best options out there for ported are the focal and CDT woofers as well as the TC sounds and creative sound solutions..

also note that the new soundstream reference and RW are very nice woofers as well..

ported enclosures are much more complicated its hard to suggest anything without knowing what you are trying to accomplish space constraints etc...

the CDT is alitle dryer punchier so are the focals while hte others listed are more laid back drivers..

actually the DD 2500 series kicks *** ported for SQ apps as well as the 9100Z..

Ruler flat BL, low distortion, and nearly 30mm xmax.

Not saying the SSD is a bad woofer by any means, but my tastes would lean me towards the LMS-R.

RAM im not sure if your similar with ported designs but ID never recommend more than 2 cubes for the lms-r.. id actually recommend 1.6 to 1.75 tuned to 30 with 25in^2 of port area..

well i was planning on doing one cylindrical port, as my brother left me aeroports so I might as well use that. its going into a 1991 BMW 318is, which from the audio guy on my forum says its pretty shitty for sound quality and tough to use WinISD to design a proper enclosure, so I was gonna use manufacturers recommended specs for the enclosure and then mess around with port length if i have too.

They do work well in smaller boxes, like you said, but I've been pretty pleased with a couple setups I've heard in the 2-2.25ft^3 range, lots of output in the 30's with the larger box. It's all personal preference though, as pretty much everything is. If I were going for a purely musical setup with it, then yes, something like 1.75ft^3 tuned in the upper 20's would be right up my alley...but I don't think most people would want that, at least not on this forum. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
