Port Clearance?? Please Help Me!!!!

I am building a box for one 10 and the sub will be firing down towards the floor. I also plan on porting the box with the port firing down towards the floor also. The port is going to be a 5 inch circle port. I plan on putting about 1-2 inches of space under the box so the sub won't hit the floor when it is on. My question is, will that be enough space under the box to allow the port to perform right?

i wouldnt forsee a huge problem firing at the floor, as long as you have clearance down there. another suggestion would be to have the sub firing towards the floor, with the port facing upwards. i have seen several HT set ups like this that worked very well. but as mentioned, you have to have clearance between the sub and the floor, i dont think you will need half the diameter of the woofer, i would say 4-6 incheswould do.

If he is down firing the sub I'm sure there is a reason. Under a seat probably. If you can't point them towards the front of your truck then down will be fine just leave 2" minimum for the port to "vent".

Yes the sub is going under the back seat. So with about 2 inches of clearance I should okay, right? The port sould able to vent, but would this amount of space also prevent "noise"?

2 inches of clearance is probably gonna give you some pressure issues. might be better off sealing them in that kinda space.

but you wont know till you try it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Can't go sealed I need SPL! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif I like your idea about having them firing up and the port firing towards the front that sounds pretty good. However I had some subs in like that before, but they were not ported. anyway they were fine unless someone sat on the back seat then they wouldn't play because the cone couldn't move. So having a sub firing up like that is not bad on the woofer?

might consider a different set up then...

if under the seat is the only way you can get them in, i would suggest 2 RE8's instead of your single 10". they will most likely work better in the smaller airspace, give you more room for your port(s), and most likely get louder.

otherwise, i would suggest finding a different place for your 10". perhaps a rear seat center console.

I would like to do a slot port but my box is going to be wedge shape how would I calculate the port area and would it work correctly if the port is slanted? What about if I fire the sub and port up? Will that hurt the sub firing it up?

profound..

face the sub down.port aimed backwards...

just like inside the box..u need the the port width minimum for port "clearance"...ie: if u are using a 3" round port..the port needs to be 3" away from anything on the OUTSIDE of the box as well...

also, by going one ten, i assume ur just using half ur backseat area......sub facing down, port facing the middle of the truck....i just sold my 10" box identical to that...i'll post some pics to help...

Mrray that is nice box it looks like it is a rectangle box and not a wedged box. am I correct. What is the hieght of the box in front and back also how much airspace is it inside of the box? Did you raise your back seat? Thanks>

it's a slight wedge shape..

with feet..it's like 9.5" in front..8.5" in back...

each chamber is about .8-.9ft^3 after port and sub displacement.

back seat is in original postion.. no need to change it any.
