too much power to the sub + gains were not set right = voicecoil overheating.

do not overdrive a subwoofer.

xmax is xmax.. if you go beyond that, then EXPECT ****ED UP NASTY SOUNDING ****.

if you want more output, add another sub but DO NOT GO BEYOND XMAX EVER

its a big myth that drivers work still OK beyond xmax..tehy ****ing don't.

i agree with you bees, but that wouldn't necessarily describe his "popping sound".

Is the Mach 5 not bottomless? Meaning the VC can hit the former when you exceed the power limit of the sub. Cause that would of course cause a popping sound.

yes.. while I think the mach 5 12 is an extremely kickass driver for the price.. its not extremely abuse tolerant.. and the coil has no problem fully engaging the backplate...
