Poor bass, wiring??

I have a fosgate 360a2 amp pushing 2 JBL GTO 10's. I currently have 16 gauge wire. The bass is there, but not as crisp and clear as I had expected. Could this be due to the wire being to small?? Should I switch to 12 gauge? My power and ground is 4 gauge, so that should all be good. Thanks for any help.

Assuming your subs are D4, you're running the amp bridged. So that means 180wrms to each sub, so that shouldn't be a problem.

Sounds like a problem with the settings on either the HU or the amp. Are you running your mid/highs off the HU or an external amp?

All I have is the sub and amp, not other upgraded speakers, YET. The subs are 250 watts each, so 500 watts total RMS. My amp is rated at 180x2 bridged. I considered upgrading to a newer amp that put out 250x2, maybe a little more, but have been told it would make very little difference. The fosgate amp's birthsheet says like 581 watts, bench tests have shown (not mine) 600 watts. Another reason a new amp wont help (so Ive been told). I have the subs in a prefab (I know) enclosure with the right airspace, and I resealed all joints. So, what's the verdict? Thanks for your input, it is greatly appreciated.

Power output potential of the amp isn't an issue in your case.

Since you are running the speakers off the HU, I assume you set the gains by turning up the HU to the highest point you would listen to comfortably, correct?

Since this seems to be the case, you probably aren't getting a sufficient output voltage on your RCA's for the amplifier to reach it's potential.

A line driver will help in this situation.

I am currently running factory speakers. My hu settings are pretty high for the mid and treble, should I try taking it to zero then adjust the bass from there? A lot of good info, and the way this thread is going I am guessing the 16 gauge is fine? Thanks a lot.

Yes, adjust your EQ to flat, then reset your gain.

16 gauge is fine for your app.
