politics and god

Your OP was in regards to the American public funding a faith-based initiative at the behest of GW (presumably)

I asked would you be so up in arms about this if it was a faith-based initiative based on some other faith besides Christianity?

You responded with "If that faith monopolized the politics of our country then yes."

So I asked for us to assume the faith (for this initiative) in question, just for the sake of argument, was Oompa Loompaism (for something completely arbitrary) would you still be taking such issue with it?

Ergo - a faith that has no bearing in the day to day decisions made at the highest level of government...

You will never, in any society, find a political system not influenced by some sort of religion, or the opposition to... It's a fact of life, get used to it.

On another note, people cast their votes based on what issues they deem to be important to them, whether it be abortion or social security. If the Christian population did not vote according to their Christian beliefs, what else do you expect them to base their point of view on?

thats actually surprising, usually its the non believers that are the most intollerant of others beliefs in my experience. ok back on topic

YES

Our government should not favor one or the other.

it doesn't mention it directly in the constitution, but it has been affirmed in many cases by the supreme court, which has judicial review over all laws created by congress and interprets the constitution.

Maybe that's because we have to beat people of with a stick who want to try and shove a belief down our throats. Maybe, just maybe by us being "intollerant" of your beliefs you might start to respect ours!

Then again maybe I'm a little sensitive to religion topice because I am a non-mormon living in Utah and I have had this fawking cult around here trying to shove ther chit down my throat since I was born.

Then again, maybe I'm just trying to stir the pot.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eyebrow.gif.fe2c18d8720fe8c7eaed347b21ea05a5.gif
