in a vehicle with no charging or voltage issues, they can provide minimal benefit. in a vehicle with issues, they become another burden.
They are largely misunderstood and applied incorrectly.
Agreed, except to add you might see minimal benefit, if your amp pretty much sucks. All amplifiers have an array of small caps (more efficient than one large one) in the input stage for 'power conditioning'. Seems if the amp required more capacitance to perform optimally, the manufacturers would simply have added them.

So maybe all these guys rolling with external caps are admitting their equipment is substandard.
