I was wondering if anyone has tried using Pocket HDD's with a HU that has USB?
I noticed there's quite a few Pocket HDD that are USB powered.
But I wasn't sure if the HU would see the HDD since it's not RAM. Or if you could format the HDD so the HU could see it.
Just asking because Pocket HDD are alot cheaper than a Flash Drive.
For an 8GB Flash Drive you'll pay about $75
For an 80GB Pocket HDD you'll pay about $65
Pocket HDD dimensions approx. 5 1/2" x 3" x 0.75"
One problem I would be worried about though is HDD have moving parts unlike Flash, so going over bumps might be an issue. But then again these are Laptop HDD's so I would think they would be ok with that. I'm just saying cause I'm sure alot of people use them on trains, vehicles (while not driving of course), and planes. But honestly I don't know too much about Laptops.
But I was thinking of buying a 120GB for about $85 and was going to try. If it didn't work, I still have a 120GB portable drive. Just was wondering if anyone has already thought of this and tried it and if you were successful or not.
Put some velcro on back of HDD case and in vehicle and easily portable complete music library, and then some. If it worked.
Might have to do with how much power is running out of the USB port of HU, not sure if it's same as home pc.
