Pledging...

some guys are trying to start a frat house here in Fort smith and most of the people joining(including the leader whatever the fu*k that person is called) is an idiot and so is about 80% of the people wanting to join......

so no thx I'd rather not join. I'll go to a party though, if they even have one....lol

Anyone who sits around on various internet forums all day long will have nothing good to say about them. So take most opinions with a grain of salt. I was in a house when I went to college and I wouldnt change a thing.

x2

I was in a fraternity last year, but transferred schools. It was literally the only thing that made me want to stay at the school. I wouldn't change a thing about it. I still keep in touch with all of the guys in the house.

I can honestly say that during pledge week, I didn't do anything horrible. No physical abuse.. No mental abuse, pretty much only sleep deprivation. But we had 7 hours of undisturbed sleep at night.. I just couldn't fall asleep. We weren't allowed to drink any type of alcohol during initiation week.

Most people have these false assumptions of what a fraternity is about, but they were probably the ones that only show up to the parties... My fraternity was way way more than a party.. A lot of involvment in the community..

Don't get me wrong, we did party, but we were also forced o be at the library atleast 15-18 hours a week.

i think theyre dumb imo. i wouldn't even have time for it anyways, majoring in mechanical engineering and enrolled in over 19 credit hours at the moment //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif
its not that bad

I'm in your shoes and I'm in Sigma Phi Delta.

so basically a frat is you buying your way into friendship?
Thats the way I see it, I try this thing, where u make friends, and u hang out with them. So u dont have to join a frat to have friends that have to hang out with u cuse their in ur frat. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

But its all good, as long as u have fun and dont get exploited (things up the anus counts as exploited)

I love the paying for your friends line...

Anyone who brings that up will never be allowed to join a hunting camp, professional organization like masons, elks club, lions club or anyother activitly in your life that has dues. If you do eventually join one please realize you're now a hypocrite. Because in the essence of these organizations you're paying for the facility.

I'm a neat freak and I hate having parties at where I live. So fo me to pay 200 bucks a semester to drink for free and have a place to trash at my own amusement is well worth it.

Y'all really do have the wrong idea of frats. Not all frats are made up of rich kids who have nothing else to do with their money and time. My best friend joined a professional fraternity and they still go drinking and have fun but its a much more homely setting. Ive talked to a bunch of the guys in it and most of them are good people. And there are indeed some social frats like that too.

I have never had too much of an interest in it. Then again, I am quite shy and tend to keep to myself and a very small circle of friends. I wouldn't want to live in a frat house as I am overly paranoid of others stealing from me.

You ain't shit till you get one of these, pledge! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Not all fraternities live together in the same house...

Paying for my friends? no, awesome resume builder and friends you will remember for the rest of your life? yes.

Just some info:

  • 85% of the Fortune 500 Executives,
  • 100% of Apollo 11 Astronauts
  • 80% of U.S. Presidents since 1900
  • Nationally, fraternity members acquire grade point averages above all other college men's scholastic rankings.
  • Nationally, fraternity members have an overall higher graduation rate than non-Greeks. Seventy-one percent of all fraternity men persist to graduation while only 50 percent of all non-fraternity members graduate.
  • All but two U.S. presidents since 1825 have been fraternity men, and 63 percent of the U.S. presidents' cabinet members since 1900 have been fraternity men .
  • Studies show that 76 percent of Congress, 71 percent of the men listed in "Who's Who in America," and 85 percent of the Fortune 500 executives belong to a fraternity.
  • Since 1910, 85 percent of the Supreme Court justices have been Greek.
  • azing in the early 1980's and 1990's gave Fraternities and Sororities a bad name, currently most major Fraternities and Sororities have an active anti-hazing policy in place with penalties ranging from expulsion of individual members to absolute discharge of an entire chapter.
  • Drugs and alcohol are technically banned in all Fraternity and Sorority sponsored functions - but the Keg Party is still synonymous with Fraternity on most campuses.
  • # Fraternities and Sororities are not all bad - they are excellent networking groups for later life, give college students a second family, and are very philathropic giving hundreds of thousands of volunteer hours and millions of dollars to worthy causes every year.

Not everyone lives in a frat house.

Wow, what people know about frats is all from the movies apparently.
