Please tell me the truth... Dayton RS 180

Allright, I am about to give up on my Dayton 7's in the door. I disconected my subs and my stock speakers that are in the back of my truck running off of my headunit have more midbass than my amped, deadened dayton 7's.

It's really, really pissing me off. Someone tell me, am I ever gonna get any good midbass out of these? How would you do it? I currently have 4 of them, two installed in the doors. I was going to fab plates and put the other two in the back speaker locations in my truck.

YOU TOO,i HAD THE SAME PROBLEM sorry had my cap-lock on anyway, my doors are deaden and sealed daytons are decoupled using mdf rings and sealed with silicon sealent...now I have tried every slope and x-over points on my Alpine hu(9815) I found that if you high-pass it around 800hz with a 12db slope and low-pass it@ 80hz witha 18db slopebout as good as it gets with the RS-180s concerning midbass output.The one thing that they do have going for them is very clean and clear Midrange, now does that sound about right to you. You may want to try some Adire SF7s very nice midbass ,clear midrange all rolled up in one speaker I`m very pleased with mine.

Hmm. I don't have that much control at the moment over them, the elctroic crossover is not too refined on my deck or I havent' figured out how to use it properly.

Hm, i like adire alot. I was looking at some of the the Seas 7's before as a possible replacement.. I always expected that the daytons would work, my install was just crap.

my installed was pretty good and I still could not get the midbass I was looking for from the daytons..btw Mt.Vernon is a long way from you I`m 81 miles east of st.lou. Yes get you Seas also get those seas 27TAFNC/G alum.tweets very smooth for ametal tweeter,best I ever heard.

I have a pair of planar BG neos atm. I think they are/will be pretty good once I get them installed.

I am going to definitely replace the daytons. I was considering making massive fiberglass door pods but screw it. It will be cheaper to just buy adequate speakers... I can use the daytons for an MTM setup for home audio or something.

I guess you have a point there becuase the midbass was lacking.

I love the RS series drivers, but the huge boner that went on about them awhile back was a bit misleading.

The entire series, minus the subs are very difficult to work with. Somewhere you have to have a trade off when you have a high performing driver, with such a low cost. It generally comes in the form environmental work. The drivers are particularly susceptible to poor crossover work and enclosure alignment problems.

So, while they are inexpensive, they require quite a bit of processing to get right in a car.

I know that I did alot of tuning and processing to get them to sound half-way decent, I know that the midrange is very very good ,clear and clean but lacks a full-bodied midbass.

Mine sounded pretty good right out of the box without a crossover on HU power (although there was absolutely no midbass then lol)... lots of clean mids... A big improvement (minus midbass) over stock and aftermarket speakers.

I would be willing to make a sealed enclosure but I want to know they are going to perform if I do it. There is no sense in making a complex fiberglass enclosure if the daytons arent going to work for my app.

I was going to cut a section out of my door panels near the bottom of my doors and then bolt a 1/2" sheet of plywood to my door's interior sheetmetal and build sealed fiberglass pods off of that, making the bolts accessible through the speaker mounting holes and the whole assembly removable.
