I currently have a 1242-d type R. The guy at the store sold me on an Alpine M350 saying that it would put out 350 rms for the type r I was buying. After having the system installed for about 2 or 3 weeks now, I am not real impressed by it. I posted in the Subwoofer Forum thinking that I had something messed up because I thought 350 rms should get louder than what I was hearing. So I looked online at the M350 specs and it says only 200 rms at 4 ohm (edit- at 14.4v, I am running regular 12v. So I'm guessing I'm getting even less than 200). This is good news and bad news at the same time. Good news- I am glad that it was 200 rms because there is lots of room for upgrade. Bad news- I wasted $100 on the amp.
So with all that said, I am looking for about 600 rms at 4 ohm. People in the other forum said that I might want 700 or 800 rms. As much as I would like 800 rms, it seems like I would be pushing the limit of the type R. If I am wrong, than just recommend an amp with 6-800 rms.
I started to look around for an amp with around that much power, but I am overwhelmed with the amount of choices and how wide the price range is $250-$1000. I am looking for best bang for the buck.
Thanks.
