MY CLIFFS NOTE VERSION>>>>>>>>

I can't exactly give cliff notes, cause I doubt that anyone without all the information will have much useful to add, but if this helps:

8 channel, 2x200, 2x100, 2x160, 2x400, 1720watt RMS system>>

how can I wire it to audiophile grade SQ. Sacrificing as little SQ as possible within a plausible price.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Please, don't be afraid of the long post. It takes a long time to intelligently ask a question so that someone can comment usefully. Thanks for your help guys.

So, I've purchased my speakers and I'm about to pick up the rest, and I want to get an idea of how best to wire up the 4 amps. First, to give you an idea of what's up, so that you understand what I'm shooting for, here's the whole list of mats-

Front deck: 1 set CDT ES62i gold upstage 6.5 components- powered with esact

RMS match 200x2 profile amp

1 set CDT ES4000 upstage 4 components- powered by exact RMS

match 100x2 amp

(The 6.5 and 4 inch woofers will be placed at the bottom corners

the doors in custom kick panels with 1 set of tweeters in between;

A second set of tweeters wil be placed at the corners of the dash

with the upstage center tweeter in the middle)

Rear deck: 1 set CDT ES60i+ gold midbass/ subass woofers for rear fill from 50-2khz

(the set will be installed near the middle of the doors, as depth

won't allow much else. These will be powered w/ exact RMS match

profile 160x2 RMS amp.

Sub deck: 2 ES gold SQ-80 8" subs- powered by exact match 2x400 RMS profile

amp

(the set will be installed in a custom box that for the trunk; they will

be in a midszed sealed enclosure)

Here's where things get a little messy, so if you can help, please do.

I'm planning on running a special 1/0 JL audio installation kit, specially designed for 4 amps of greater than 1200RMS wattage, and including a 4 way distribution block. So, I'll have power to those 4 profiles.

I'm planning on using an audiocontrol 6xs active electronic crossover, which will help out with other things, while turning the 3-preamp outputs of most CD players into a 4 preamp output set that I can run to each of my amps.

Now, I had been planning on buying a kenwood kdc-x791, b/c I like the player's sound, but the 3 preamp pairs are of a fairly low power @ 4 volts each. If I understand correctly, my 6xs audiocontrol will split those 4 ways by averaging the signal, giving me a total of 4 3 volt preamp pairs (I'm uncertain about this so clear it up). The 4 profile amps are really going to sound best with a 6 volt preamp power supply, if I understand correctly, and so I'm going to be losing some SQ by going with the excellon processor. For this reason, I was thinking that I could get a nice eclipse H.U. instead, which would give me 3- 8 volt preamp pairs, which my 6xs would wire down to 4 6V pairs, which would work just great. I'm sure that there's some way of running the preamps that I haven't thought of, so if you could help me out.... Remember, the system is all out SQ, I want the least amount of distortion possible, so any half-A** methods of making this work won't do.

Finally, I wondering about the power limitiations of the alternator I'm running. I don't believe in caps, per-se, b/C I just think that the cash is better spent on upgrading the power supply than the storage. So... my alternator is running a 130Ampere power supply, and the car is a compact with no other mentionable gadgets, so I would think that the car itself is only going to eat maybe 50A of my supply, which would leave me roughly enough to keep the system functioning at a high level. Really, I'm pretty sure that with the 1720RMS wattage, I'm going to need a truly high output alternator to move this beast the way it was intended to move. That point is open to debate. So... I'm thinking that I'll change to what is listed as a 200+Amp alternator that gives 110A at an idle, and that way I'll have pretty much all the power I could possibly need for this beast, and that will help keep everything involved functioning at its SQ potential, with the least possible amount of distortion.

General notes:

I know that I could go with a dedicated preamp, and that this would solve all of my preamp woes, and with probably better SQ than any other way of doing this. However, I've got no experience with preamplifiers, so somebody help me out with some ideas here.

I know that there are some CD players with 4 pairs of 4 V preamp outputs, and I would be happy with this but I haven't found one at anything short of 800 bucks (top of the line clarion), and thats just outside what I can do considering everything else I'm buying here. If you know of one, I'm interested.

Please, I know that I could have louder, boomier, crazier bass for the cash I putting out on this-----I could have a fricking 157db system if I cared to....I DON"T

I don't want king-kong, kimbo, or any other monkey a**hole in my trunk OK. I want the pure sound of an extremey skilled bassist, some bass drums, and maybe a tympani from time to time....so please, don't tell me about the "amazing" kicker or other BOOM BOOM nonsense sub that I could get for 200 dollars less than my CDT stuff. SQ SQ SQ.....spl.....>did someone say something, I couldn't hear it over my woderfully resonant, tight, and natural bass, oh well.

Thanks guys...please help me out, I know the post is long.

Really seems like you are running too many different amps to me. 1 or 2 larger multichannel amps makes more sense to me. Heck even 2 6-channel amps and bridging them down would seem to be less of a headache.

Well, I have thought about running two four or six channel amps, but it will actually complicate the setup, I mean, to get every channel the proper output power, prevent to much system distortion from an underworked or overworked amp or channel (because the impedence is going to be less stable if I set up four or six channel, I'll have to buy better amps to get the same SQ. Six channels might do it, but again, I think i'm going to need two REALLY good and expensive amplifiers to push 1700RMS over eight total channels without distorting the signal or losing response due to impedence instability. If you know of two six channels that might work (like I want them to) and would cost less than $500 each or in that range let me know.

wow thats too many amps. it was a lil too much to read, but u said u matched the exact rms power ratings. so u did consider the impedance that the amps put out that power. like the one u said is 2x200 for example, is that 2x200 at at 4 ohms or 2 ohms? and the gain setting is there to match the voltage coming from the H/U.

:rolleyes:Yeah,

Every speaker will be run and 4 ohms, and the subs are dual coil 4 ohms, the coild will be run in parrallel for each sub, showing 2 ohm impedence to the two channels of the amp. That wattage I gave for the amp is 2 ohm. The rest of the channels are run four ohm and 4 ohm wattage of the amps is shown. The wattage on the amps, of course, is variable, so, and besides, I'm planning on running the preamp outputs of 3x5V though an audiocontrol 6xs which will split the signal to 4 pairs. I believe that this split will give me 4 pairs of roughly 4V preamps and so matching the voltage to my profile amps should be cake. Now, I know 4 amps is a lot, so how else, without sacrificing the integrity of the SQ can I run fewer amps?

I though he was just looking anxious and confused.......//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif
