Please give me advice on how to go about fixing my Pioneer AVH-P6600DVD Deck

Hi Everyone thank you for taking the time to read my post.

I have a Pioneer AVH-P6600DVD deck that was given to me by a friend after he took apart his car to rebuild it from scratch. When he first got his car, the deck worked perfectly, which I saw with my own eyes. After a while he took apart his car and gave me the stereo because it broke. He is too lazy to fix it, and frankly doesnt care about it because he got it with his car, so he gave it to me. From what I can see, the LCD screen is halfway stuck out the unit, and is solidly locked in place. He told me that a gear is broken and wont move the unit back and forth anymore. He also told me that it wont power on because the electrical system in his 1969 corvette that it was installed in previously had shoddy wiring at best and blew it out.

Can anyone give me any advice or idea's at all about how to fix this really expensive deck (Because I got it for FREE!) im willing to do what is necessary to fix it but im wondering what the best course of action is. Again, I dont have a receipt for it, but I do have all the connectors, wires, av control box and remote control for it. Is it best to take it to a general electrician guy who has some people working in a shop to fix it, or take it to pioneer directly? Im wondering who will charge more.

I dont know what to expect exactly so im hoping to get a little insight from all you experienced people.

Thank you very much for your answers!

Your best bet is to hit Pioneer's website for a list of local authorized repair centers. Send it to them and ask for an estimate. It shouldn't run you more than $25-50 to find out what's wrong, and sometimes they'll apply the estimate cost towards the repairs if you elect to do them.

That way, at least you'll not be out much cash and can find out whether it's worth saving or not. As for his Corvette's shoddy electrical, the fuses on the deck's constant and switched power leads should have protected it unless he bypassed it. Did you check the fuses?
